Why is service of process significant?

Service of process is necessary for several reasons, but the primary reason is to make sure that the due process of law is upheld in the US. Process servers are an essential part of civil society, who ensure that legal documents are served in an effective, lawful, and professional fashion. The next reason it’s necessary, is to ensure the legal documents are served correctly the first time. If documents aren’t served correctly, the court may not be able to rule on a case relating to an individual, if that individual was not legally and properly made aware of it. If service is determined to be improper, the entire case could be thrown out. Therefore, it is crucial to be aware of each State’s laws governing the service of process.
